the below images mirror these intentions by archiving my knitting projects, which springboarded my interests in the textile art of batik.  i hope that the still-lives themselves provoke artistic insight, as my first step towards doing so in my fiber and textile studies.

circular needles. playing with colors, pom-poms, and earflaps. addictions to lion’s brand wool. and the woolen mills. dropping all of my summer savings on yarn and roving. shared this pattern with genny, and hope she likes and has had the chance to use it. kind of a goofy shape when worn — i’ll decrease sooner next time.

an attempted brim. a project inspired by pre-existing, commercialized, widespread, media-covered hipster hats. lame. the brim flips up when you put it down. enjoyed working with the soy-silk, and the decreases were cake. future plans involve using stiff material in the brim.

the ugly purse. playing with patterns and color changes. kept me occupied on the fishing trip. loved the process, hated the end result. remember that long skinny lengths [read: straps] stretch out.

backpack. still needs to be felted. double-ply worsted wool. saw the pattern in the yarnery and knew that hours of my life had to be needlessly devoted to the project. bitch sold me too much yarn, though.  oh well <i>maybe i can be the first girl in history to own mittens and a scarf that match her backpack…</i>  probably not, though.  paris and nicole might have beaten me to it.

before i knew how to use circular needles. itchy, but aesthetically pleasing. form before function.

knitted in class. in high school. and was in the yearbook more than i was. the scarf seen ’round the hallway? 12ish feet long. doubles as a hat. green lion’s brand yarn. i see the same shit everywhere. every person ever owns this yarn and has knitted a scarf out of it.

the second blue christmas tree sock. too much? too much.

bought these socks from the woman who sells us our christmas tree.  our secular, commercialized christmas tree.  willemijn and i used to have a rule: sock on the door?  twenty minutes more.

tarah taught me how to knit. this hat was her gift to me. she used to turn the pages of her text books with her toes to continue reading through knits and purls.
